The Black Alumni Organization (BAO) proudly invites you to a special evening celebrating the legacy of Black cowboys and equestrian mastery at our book signing event with Louis C. Hook ’80, P’12, author of Black in the Saddle: From African Cavalries to Modern Cowboys. Mark your calendars for Tuesday, November 11, from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM at the Samuelson Alumni Center, 1599 Campus Road, Los Angeles, CA 90041.[1]

Louis Hook—known as the Educated Hood Rat—will sign copies of Volume I in his groundbreaking seven-part series that reclaims the erased history of Black cowboys in America. With a foreword by his son Randy Savvy ’12, founder of the internationally acclaimed Compton Cowboys, this book bridges ancient African cavalry arts and today’s urban rides.[2][1]
Discover the roots of Black horsemanship, understand the impact of enslaved equestrians on both colonial economies and western frontiers, and see how today’s urban cowboys continue a tradition rooted in resilience and culture. The Pan-African Student Association joins us in honoring Louis as he shares this journey and inspires new generations.
